Film writer/director and occasional comic book writer Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) had some harsh words on Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and its director Zack Snyder.

Smith, on his podcast Hollywood Babble-On, said that “It’s almost like Zack Snyder didn’t read a bunch of comics. He read one comic once, and it was Dark Knight Returns, and his favorite part was the last part where Batman and Superman fight.

Smith himself has written a few Batman comics including Cacophony and The Widening Gyre with pencils by long-time friend and star of AMC’s Comic Book Men Walt Flanagan.

  1. Enough with the Monday Night quarterbacking. The movie is fine and it’s made a ton of money. It was a lot better than a lot of the other superhero films. X-Men 1 and 2, Daredevil, Batman Begins, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Ghost rider 1 n 2, Thor, e.t.c.

  2. It wasn’t the best movie ever and I had some issues including the casting of Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, however it’s still better than anything Marvel puts out. Marvel is typical good guy vs bad guy cliché superhero story. DC tends to be darker with more shades of gray.

Truthfully though, nothing touches the original source material. Graphic novels and the animated movies/series are the best. To me the best Batman and Joker are Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil.
