Hello again, I’m back with the second part of my Trailer Park Boys Season 2 review so let’s get right to it.
Episode 5-The Bible Pimp
Synopsis: A man and his daughter arrive at the trailer park trying to spread the word of the Lord and sell Bibles, but all is not as it seems with these two.
Overview: The episode opens with the introduction of Hampton and Tanya who explain who they are and what they’re doing in Sunnyvale which is selling Bibles to the residents. The first person they encounter is Bubbles who immediately notices something is not right with them and tells them to take a hike. The scene then shifts to Ricky and Sarah in the Airstream where Sarah gives Ricky a hard time for the two of them not spending enough time together cause he’s busy with the dope and school. In the next scene Julian tries to make amends with Bubbles but he is still upset over his shed being burned down by Julian and Ricky. Julian then arrives at the Airstream where Ricky explains his issues with everything going on in his life and tries to get him to let him and Sarah go out for the night which he eventually agrees to. With that Julian is left to watch over the dope plants as Tanya arrives at the Airstream and her and Julian get to talking. Lahey arrives at Bubble’s van(that he’s renting from J-Roc) to try and tell him that he can’t live there but J-Roc manages to keep Lahey from kicking Bubbles out just as Tanya and Hampton arrive to try and sell Bibles to the group while J-Roc mentions that he recognizes Tanya. No one’s interested in buying but Lahey tells Randy to keep an eye on them. Tanya then introduces Hampton to Julian while Lahey, Randy, and Bubbles spy on them as Bubbles professes his friendship to Ricky and Julian, even if they do cause him trouble as besides his kitties they are his only family. Hampton eventually leaves as Sarah picks up Ricky from school and they talk about their plans for the evening. Ricky arrives at Ray’s trailer to find him buying a Bible from Hampton and asks about it and Ray says that he wanted to buy it to give to Ricky as a gift. Ricky then asks if Ray can spot him 30 dollars for his date that night which he agrees to on the condition that when the Bible comes in they read it to each other for an hour a day to which Ricky reluctantly agrees to. Bubbles walks in on a conversation between Tanya and Julian and it’s clear Tanya’s trying to seduce Julian. Bubbles pulls Julian away and talks about how something is up with the two of them but Julian isn’t buying it and Tanya eventually manages to talk him into leaving the Airstream alone so the two can go out that evening. Bubbles then confronts Hampton directly, letting him know that he’s on to him and Lahey and Randy eventually arrive to also confront him and Hampton eventually leaves the park, saying his work is done while Bubbles heads off to find Corey and Trevor and then tries to talk to Ricky who’s in a hurry to get to his date with Sarah. At the Chinese restaurant, Ricky is shocked to find that Julian is there as well with Tanya and that there’s no one at the Airstream and confronts him while Tanya calls for Hampton to come pick her up. Julian then leaves to return to the Airstream to find that the door is wide open and the dope is gone. Ricky and Bubbles then arrive and Bubbles reveals that he’s had Corey and Trevor trail Hampton and Tanya and found that they’ve stopped off at a strip club. Lahey then shows up and reveals that those two had ripped off 4,800 dollars from the park residents and a vengeful Julian promises he’ll get the money back. Upon arriving at the strip club, Corey and Trevor take Hampton’s van, which is carrying the boys’ dope, back to the Airstream while the rest of the crew goes to confront Hampton and Tanya, who they discover is one of the dancers there. A chase and gunfight ensues with the boys coming out on top and Hampton and Tanya going to jail and the park residents getting their money back. Back at Bubble’s van, the boys finish their reconciliation.
Brandon’s Take: 8.5 A very solid episode that helped highlight some of the lowpoints of the boys’ friendship and even then it can never be broken along with several funny scenes.
Episode 6-Never Trust a Man With No Shirt On
Synopsis: Enraged after finding out that his daughter has been hanging out with the boys, Lahey hatches a plan with the help of Randy to bust them for their dope growing operation and get them sent back to jail.
Overview: The episode begins with the boys boosting power from Randy and Lahey’s trailer to use for the Airstream and Randy and Lahey having caught on to them doing that. After the opening credits roll it goes to Ricky and Julian inside the Airstream discussing the plan to smuggle the dope into prisons and Ricky suddenly gets upset about his clothes being ruined from the power boosting and that Julian won’t let him have any money to buy a new one for school which devolves into an argument that Treena overhears. As Julian leaves Treena comes in and she helps give Ricky a boost of confidence. Meanwhile Lahey is talking with a tech from the power company and they figure out it must be the boys stealing their power to grow dope. As this is going on, Lahey spots Treena coming out of the Airstream with Ricky and is upset to see her hanging out with him. Before they can do anything, Julian comes back and denys any involvement in the power boosting when confronted as Lahey and Randy leave to go spy on Treena. At the grocery store, Trina tries to buy some pepperoni and a new shirt for Ricky but finds she doesn’t have enough money so she pawns her bike to Corey and Trevor which enrages Lahey as he vows to send the boys to jail that day. The two of them head to the Airstream while Lahey explains his plan to Randy of how he’s going to get them busted. They then arrive at the Airstream and Lahey informs the boys that the police are on their way while him and Randy seemingly have a falling out. The boys then quickly start moving the dope into Ray’s trailer, despite his protests. Once that’s done they all have lunch in the backyard and are approached by Randy who’s now wearing a shirt and tries to get on the good side of the boys by offering to go to the store and buy them snacks. Julian is wary but Bubbles and Ricky convince him that they could take advantage of him. Later they get Randy to start destroying some of Sam Losco’s property much to their amusement. However Julian says that if Randy really wants to earn their trust then he needs to piss in Lahey’s car. Not long after, Randy does eventually complete that task, seemingly earning the boys’ trust. They return to Ray’s trailer where Julian walks in on them talking about the dope being in Ray’s trailer which upsets Julian who discovers that Randy has been wearing a wire the entire time as well as having a device strapped to his leg to help make it look like he was pissing in Lahey’s car. The boys try to assault Randy but Lahey arrives to inform them that the police are on the way with a warrant for Ray’s address. Inside of Ray’s trailer they discuss how to handle the situation when Treena comes in and mentions Lahey was on the phone all day with the cops and giving them the warrant for the address. They then hatch a plan to switch the street signs and house numbers to throw the cops off and make their warrant useless which they finish just in the nick of time and manage to narrowly avoid going to jail. That night Treena and Ricky meet up where Treena finally manages to give him the shirt she bought. Ricky explains how much he enjoys having her around while regretfully telling her that they can’t hang out anymore, at least until Freedom 35 is complete, cause it would cause her dad to go crazy again. Ricky returns to the Airstream where the dope has been brought back to and finds that Julian and Bubbles have figured out how to make the dope into hash on their own. Ricky requests that he has the night off to study for his final exam which Julian agrees to.
Brandon’s Take: 9/10 A very good episode with plenty of funny moments as well as showing how well the boys can work under pressure and their ability to think quickly on their feet and put a plan together.
Episode 7-The Bare Pimp Project
Synopsis: With Lahey breathing down their necks as well as Sam Losco still trying to take over the supervisor position, the boys have to unload the dope quickly while trying to make sure that Sam and Lahey’s ex-wife break up at the same time.
Overview: The episode begins with Ricky testing some of the dope in the Airstream and Julian arriving and being upset to find that Ricky is growing new dope clones as their plan was supposed to be a one shot deal. Ricky realizes he’s running late for his final exam while Julian tries to talk him out of growing more dope and informs Ricky that Sam Losco has proposed to Barb Lahey and if they get married then Sam will have power in the park, possibly more than Jim Lahey. Things devolve into another argument as Julian storms off. After the opening credits roll, the show cuts to Ricky explaining why it would be bad if Sam marries Barb and then explains the plan to get Sam to star in one of J-Roc’s porn movies and make him look bad so Barb won’t marry him. Once the plan is set up, the scene switches to Lahey’s trailer where the Lahey family drama continues to unfold with Barb wanting to marry Sam and Treena being grounded. As the argument takes place, Treena sneaks out of the trailer, unbeknownst to her parents. When they do find out she’s missing, they immediately go to the Airstream and Ricky informs them that she’s not there and proceeds to completely bury Lahey and Barb’s parenting skills. The scene then shifts to Julian in his car who finds out that Treena had snuck into his backseat cause she was sick of her parents fighting and needed someone to talk to. J-Roc then arrives at Sam’s camper to try and convince him to be in his movie, even introducing him to his female co-stars and he’s a bit wary of accepting. Julian meets with his prison contact and makes the deal, selling the hash and securing the financial success of Freedom 35. The next scene shows Ricky outside of his school where he explains that Cyrus from the first episode is taking his final exam in the same class as him and Lucy has been sleeping with him to make Ricky jealous. It’s exam time and Ricky, feeling incredibly stressed out, sneaks a quick cigarette in class while Cyrus is cheating, having notes written on the back side of the student in front of him. The teacher smells the smoke and Cyrus rats Ricky out who in turn rats out Cyrus for cheating who is then thrown out of class and then taunted by Ricky. The next scene shows an excited Lahey who found a technicality where can legally move the Airstream wherever he wants and plans on moving it to his own driveway. It’s finally time to shoot the porno as J-Roc explains the setting and what he wants the actors/actresses to do in it. The shooting starts and it goes about as hilariously bad as you would expect. Once the shooting is done, the scene goes to Ricky getting out of school as Lucy hurries toward him to let him know that Cyrus is looking for Ricky and is incredibly pissed off and carrying a gun and that her and Cyrus had also broken up to add fuel to the fire. Julian then delivers the porno tape of Sam to Barbara while Bubbles and Sarah are waiting for Ricky to get home from school to surprise him with a cake. As this is going on, Ray frantically runs in and tells them about Lahey towing the Airstream away. In the next scene Barb confronts Sam over the tape and breaks off the engagement with him. After Ricky and Lucy talk about their relationship issues, everyone arrives at the Airstream to stop Lahey from towing it. Before they can take care of him, Cyrus and Sam show up, both wielding guns and looking for revenge on the boys. A gunfight ensues and during the chaos Ricky gets shot and Treena runs off with the Freedom 35 money while Lahey calls the cops. Sirens are heard as the boys hop into Lahey’s truck that’s still attached to the Airstream and hope to get away before the police arrive. While they’re on the highway they hear a helicoptor above them. It looks like though everything will still be fine until Bubbles, who’s driving, sees a kitty on the road and swerves to avoid it, flipping the truck and the trailer in the process near a farm. The cops are finally arriving and Ricky tries to run into the Airstream, which is now on fire, to get the hash out but Julian informs him that he already sold it and there’s nothing to worry about as the remaining evidence inside the Airstream is being burned. When the cops get there, they manage to get Bubbles off the hook by saying he’s a farmer that came to help them when the vehicle flipped. Lahey arrives on the scene to taunt the boys but Ricky isn’t letting it get to him cause he’s confident they’re not going to jail with the hash sold and the evidence burned up. The scene cuts to a week later and Ricky and Julian are in jail where they explain that they got hit with other charges not relating to the dope they grew and Ricky reveals that he managed to pass his grade 10. The episode ends with Treena and Bubbles hiding the Freedom 35 money in a locker for the boys to retrieve when they get out of jail while Ricky and Julian look forward to the future when they get out.
Brandon’s Take: 10/10 In my opinion the best episode thus far as it came with many memorable and hilarious moments such as the scene in the classroom and the shooting of the porno movie. It reminded me a lot of the Crash TV style of television as there was always something going on in every scene to progress the story forward and keep you entertained throughout the entire episode with nothing that could be considered filler.
All in all I thought this was a great season and a definite improvement on the previous one, nicely building upon what it had set up.
