Dixie Carter just announced via Twitter that Impact Wrestling will be moving to Thursday Nights starting July 21st. This is obviously because SmackDown! is moving to Tuesdays and would be head-to-head with Impact for an hour.

I think this is a mistake. Impact just had its highest rated episode on PopTV to date, and in my opinion, showed a bunch of new people that TNA is a better current product than WWE. With the creative direction of WWE over the past 2+ years, it’s a safe bet that nothing is going to magically change when SmackDown! moves to Tuesdays. I felt this was a great attempt for TNA to steal viewers, as they change the channel from what will most likely be a continuation of the lackluster WWE product.

Those WWE fans will already be sitting down with wrestling in mind on a Tuesday night. Now, by moving to another night, TNA will be continuing the failing battle of asking these people to watch wrestling on a third (or fourth) night. If WWE’s product was strong, I would agree with TNA moving. However, it’s the opposite. TNA has the creative momentum right now, and is miles ahead of WWE in quality programming in my opinion.

TNA had a chance to gain back (or gain new) viewers by being on TV the same time as a crappy wrestling show. Now, they will have to pray that people somehow find them on Thursday when they don’t have wrestling on their mind. I think this is a bad decision, but I hope I am wrong.

  1. TNA needs to be run by an owner who’s fearless. Next week is Destination X. The ratings are probably going to tank because of the move and TNA’s lack of marketing. Promoting the change in the full Final Deletion video is good. However, the video has less than 10k views as of now.

  2. Completely baffled by the move!

I agree with you Jeff, why change day when WWE will bring more eyes of wrestling fans to Tuesday nights? Seems silly not to capitalise on this opportunity!

TNA/Impact have had TOO MANY time changes, day changes & brand changes.

    Another crazy decision!
